Physical, mental and spiritual is the core of my job as massage therapist. The ability to help people discover their own way to health via the use of a massage, or indirectly through helping them to live the habit of self-care confidence and self-love, is a priority for me. And there’s no better time for embracing the pursuit of health and wellness than the new year.
Every January the health and body magazines are filled with diet plans as well as exercise tips and resolutions for the coming year. I am awed by this commitment to health and fitness, and I hope that it can stay in the spotlight throughout the year.
In this year’s edition (Welcome 2014! ) I’d like be focusing on an aspect of health that a lot of people don’t know about the body’s pH.
We all remember Ph (acidic and basic) in high school in chemistry. You may not have realized that pH is “potential of hydrogen,” which measures hydrogen ions present in a solution. In terms of numerics pH is measured on an scale ranging from zero to 14, with which is very acidic with 14 being extremely simple or alkaline. Seven is neutral.
What does this have to relate to health and wellness? There’s a lot actually.
Our bodies are made to operate within a small pH range, which is slightly alkaline with blood pH levels of 7.4. When your blood’s pH shifts to a more acidic value warning signals for distress are sent out , and you’ll experience various unpleasant symptoms that range from acne to chronic fatigue, arthritis to IBS. A blood pH less than 7 is particularly risky because it weakens your immune system and can result in the development of illness.
In American society, it’s easy to have an acidic pH because of all the processed foods available on the market as well as stress. So , how can you keep your body alkaline?
Massage therapy regularly can help lower stress levels and therefore increase the body’s pH. Stress causes acidic hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. The choice of a relaxing body massage will not only stop the process, but also helps to get the natural fluids of the body – – blood, lymph and oxygenmoving in a healthy way. The body’s adrenaline level is reduced and cortisol decreases.
I would recommend diet that is high in leafy greens in addition to lean meats, fruits with low sugar content. This will supply your body with all the required vitamins, minerals, and proteins to maintain pH in the alkaline zone.
One of the most effective methods to adopt this diet is to begin each day with a glass of juice. I suggest drinking green juice early in the morning, such as kale or green apple Codeage Collagen at Ride Aid, and parsley for instance. If you don’t think kale is appealing around 8:30 a.m. (I understand you) you can opt for fruits with low sugar levels, such as blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries. Better yet, go for something sweeter, like carrots.
All of these options can supply your blood with minerals you need to remain alkaline, in addition to important antioxidants and blood building substances like chlorophyll.
The reason you juice vegetables and fruits instead eating them as whole is because the nutrients that are pure can get into your system faster through juice. (Imagine how cumbersome and long it would be to consume the half-a-bunch of kale and not juice it.) In removing the fiber in plants Juicing helps ease digestion process and delivers the nutritious substances to your system quicker. This means a healthy and alkaline body!
You should definitely try it! Juicers are available to stop from any grocery retailer or on the internet. If you’re unsure if whether you’re ready to commit but, you’ll be able to locate a juice shop in the city.
